Use A Garbage Bag As A Homemade Grass Skirt

Design an inexpensive grass skirt from a garbage bag. You can wear the handmade, plastic grass skirt to your next luau or tropical-themed party or toss it around your waist for a homemade Halloween costume. If you are planning a tropical-themed birthday party for a child, allow everyone to make their own skirts for an entertaining activity.

Instructions

1. Spread out a 30-gallon, green garbage bag -- with a drawstring -- on a flat work surface. Cut across the bottom of the bag, 2 inches from the edge to remove the closed end. You can cut more off the length of the bag if you want a shorter grass skirt.

2. Cut the skirt starting from the bottom edge into 1-inch-wide vertical strips. Cut through both layers of the garbage bag as you create the strips. Cut within 2 inches of the drawstring at the top of the bag.

3. Wear the skirt around your waist. Hold one of the garbage handles; this is the drawstring running through the top of the bag. Pull the handle so the drawstring is comfortably tight around your waist. Tie a knot in the drawstring -- form the knot at the base of the drawstring handle against your body -- so the skirt is secure on your body.
