Make your Kwanzaa present stand out by creating special gift tags. The possibilities are endless with the many tools available at craft and scrapbooking supply stores. For Kwanzaa, you should stick with handmade, creative designs to dress up your gifts.
Instructions
Make Kwanzaa Gift Tags
1. Round up supplies to start making your one-of-a-kind Kwanzaa gift tags. Gather craft paper in various textures. You can mirror the patterns of African fabrics, baskets, clothing and flags.
2. Select a heavy card or paper stock at a craft or paper supply store. You will find many different colors and patterns. Look for colors reminiscent of African culture and Kwanzaa including green, yellow, brown, red, black and orange.
3. Pay homage to the ceremonial attire of Africa when selecting paper for your gift tags. Recall images of kaftan pants in tie-dye cotton fabric, or hats and pants in embroidered bubu patterns.
4. Cut out shapes for your gift tags with a medium weight card stock. Choose geometric-shaped plastic stencil patterns. Use a pencil to trace a shape onto the card stock. Glue the colorful paper to the cut-out cardstock. Place a hole in the top of the tag with a hole puncher.
5. Embellish your tags with stickers. Get word stickers like "joy" or lettered stickers to spell out the name of who the gift is for. You can also rely on Kwanzaa stickers displaying art and symbols.
6. Loop a thin ribbon or string through the hole you made to tie the tag to a gift. Select the ribbons in vibrant colors to display the traditions of the holiday. Visit Michaels.com for gift tag supplies (see Resources below).
7. Use photos to make gift tags. Save photos from previous Kwanzaa celebrations and place them on your gift tags. Whoever the gift is for will be pictured on the item. Feel free to save old cards, too. You can help the environment by recycling these paper products and using them as gift tags.
