Make Your Own 18th Birthday Invitations

Use colorful envelopes to deliver your handmade birthday invitations.

It is your 18th birthday and you want your invitations to be as special as the day. You could purchase invitations, download and use a template, or craft your invitations yourself. Handmade birthday party invitations will show off your personality, be unique and be treasured by your guests. Use colors and textures, and embellish your invitations with ribbon, pressed flowers, silk flowers and wording reflecting the theme of your party to create an invitation to remember. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Select the specifics for your 18th birthday party--date, time, place and any other particulars like dress or costumes. Also decide if you are going to have a theme for your party and what theme you want. Any type of party is easier to plan and decorate for when you have a specific theme.

2. Go to an arts and crafts, scrapbooking or hobby store that has a wide selection of rubber stamps. There are also several websites that offer both pre-made and custom-made rubber stamps. Select a variety of rubber stamp designs that express both a birthday theme and your party theme, plus whatever color(s) of ink pads you want to use on the birthday invitations. While you are there, purchase blank cards or sheets of card stock you can cut to card size and envelopes.

3. Experiment with layout and design of your party invitations by using plain paper and the stamps and ink pads you purchased. Try different placements on the paper for the stamp designs. Use colored pencils, watercolors, even crayons to color in the rubber-stamped outlined designs. Once you have decided the placement and colors of the rubber stamp design for your invitation, you can begin making the actual invitations.

4. Place the sample design you did on the plain paper where you can refer to it as you use your rubber stamps on the actual card stock birthday invitations. Stamp all the card fronts with the design, then color in the parts you want on each card.

5. Use your computer word-processing program to format the invitation details you want on the inside of the card. Print the information directly onto the card with your printer, or print the information on colored paper then cut the paper to fit and paste it onto the inside of your invitations. As an alternative, you can hand print or write the invitation specifics inside your invitation.

6. Add any embellishments to the front of your invitation. You can add ribbon, bows, glitter, cut-out objects, feathers or dried flowers for extra pizazz. Embellishments on your invitation will catch the recipient's attention, letting the invitee know you are putting extra effort in the planning of your 18th birthday party and the party should not be missed.
