List Of Different Color Shades

A shade is a dark value of a color.

According to color theory, a "shade" is a color's dark value. The opposite of a tint, a shade is created when a color is mixed with black. However, you can create the same effect by mixing complementary colors (opposites on the color wheel). Since colors can be mixed in an endless variety of ratios, there are an infinite amount of possible shades, but only a finite number of them have been named.

Shades of Red

Using red as a base, you can create various red shades by mixing in black or red's complementary color, green. Some shades of red include scarlet, free speech red, sangria, dark red and maroon. Hexadecimal color codes are a fairly universal way to define various color values for web design; some red shades, in hex color code, include C73F17, 8C1717, 8B0000 and 691F01.

Shades of Blue

Like all other shades, these are created by mixing blue with either black or its complement---in this case, orange. Some blue shades include medium blue, International Klein Blue, smalt, new midnight blue, dark blue, navy and Prussian blue. Some hex code blue shades include 0000CD, 00008B and 000080.

Shades of Yellow

Created by mixing yellow with either black or yellow's complement, violet, some shades of yellow include golden yellow, school bus yellow and golden poppy. Some yellow shades, in hex code, are FFD800, FFDF00 and FCC200.

Shades of Orange

Created by mixing orange with either black or orange's complement, blue, some shades of orange include orange peel, tangerine, mango tango and tawny. Some hex code shades of orange include F79800, ED8E00 and E08200.

Shades of Violet

Violet shades are created by mixing violet with either yellow, its complement, or black. Some violet shades include deep magenta, dark violet, purple and dark magenta. Some hex code purple shades are B300BA, A500AA and A800A8.

Shades of Green

Created by mixing either green and black or green and red (green's complement), some shades of green include British racing green, dark green, hunter green and packer green. Some hex code shades of green include 004907, 215E21 and 174038.
