Make Party Favors And Gift Bags For Kids

Let your child's guests take home their crafts as party favors.

The party favors you choose for your child's birthday celebration should match the theme or color scheme and allow your guests to bring some of the fun home with a memory of the day. There are several festive favors -- some of them edible -- that you can include in the bags, as well as a few items children can help you create while they're at the party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Decorating the Gift Bags

1. Purchase colored paper bags in hues that are featured in your child's party decor.

2. Write the words "(child's name)'s birthday party" in the center of the bags with a silver pen, along with the child's birth date.

3. Glue or staple a strip of ribbon or lace to the top of the bag. Choose an eye-catching color, such as a strip of black lace to go with a lime-green party bag, or a hot-pink ribbon to accent a brown bag.

4. Place a small thank-you card in the bags that says something along the lines of, "Thanks for coming to my party!" or "It wouldn't have been the same without you!" Have the child celebrating his birthday write his name on each card (if he's old enough) or add a sticker of the youngster's favorite cartoon character that serves as his signature.

5. Spray glitter on the bags and fill them with treats.

DIY Party Favors

6. Bake and ice mini cupcakes to add to the goodie bags. Use decorative cupcake paper in funky patterns such as zebra print, or a bright color like turquoise, to maintain the party's theme. Wrap the treats in colored plastic wrap before placing them in the bags.

7. Give the children life saver-shaped gummy or hard fruit candies, along with stretchy string, to make edible jewelry. Cut the string at varying lengths so the kids can make necklaces or bracelets. Or prepare the party favors yourself and drop a jelly-bean bracelet in each child's bag. Slide one end of the string through the eye of a needle. Stick the needle through each jelly bean and tie a knot in the string to keep the candies from falling off.

8. Give the children art supplies, such as paint, stickers and markers, so they can create a small craft for their goodie bags. Have the kids decorate a small picture frame with their favorite colors and stickers. Place a picture from the party into the frame.

9. Place each favor in the goodie bags as the children are engaging in another activity. Arrange the bags on a small table and present one to each child at the end of the celebration as you thank them for attending the party.
