Make & Decorate Birthday Cakes

Make and decorate a birthday cake from scratch


You can make and decorate a birthday cake that looks and tastes like it was special-ordered from a special cake company. A special cake like this will impress everyone, including the birthday person. Make and decorate a special and delicious birthday cake in a couple of hours. The cake is sure to be the main attraction when everyone feasts their eyes on its appearance. Instructions


1. Mix the cake batter according to product directions using the batter, eggs and water in a mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients well with a mixing spoon.


2. Grease the inside of the cake pan using a pastry brush to generously grease vegetable shortening. Put about two sprinkles of flour in the inside of the pan to help keep the cake from sticking. Turn the pan upside-down so that any excess flour falls out and put any vegetable shortening or flour in any bald spots in the pan.


3. Put the batter into the cake pan and put it into the preheated oven. Follow the product directions of the cake batter to bake the cake for the specified time. When the cake is done baking, take it out of the oven and put it on a wire rack to cool down. It should take about 10 minutes. Let the cake cool for an hour before you decorate it. Make another three cake pieces.


4. Make an icing dam around the edge of the first bottom cake piece. This will help the filling of the cake stay on the inside.


5. Put a layer of butter cream on the bottom cake piece or if making a fruit cake, put fruit or fruit cream on the bottom cake layer.


6. Place a second cake piece on the first one and make an icing dam around the cake edge. Layer butter cream on the second cake piece or put fruit pieces or fruit cream on the cake piece.


7. Put a layer of icing on the first two layers of cake and refrigerate it. Afterward, take the cake out and apply the second layer of icing. Refrigerating the cake helps the icing stick on better. It will also help take away the look of any crumbs on your cake. Put the third layer of cake on top of the second layer and ice all three layers. Refrigerate the cake. Then frost the cake again. Smooth the cake using the cake smoothing tool or wet a spatula in warm water.


8. Place fondant shapes on the cake or chocolate shavings around the side of the cake. Decorate the cake as you would like. Put chocolate shavings around the side of the cake by sticking them to the icing. Stick fondant shapes on top of the cake.
