Make Baby Shower Invitations

A baby shower helps provide items for the new family member.

Baby showers are a way to show support and excitement for a friend or family member who's expecting. As a close friend or family member, you can play hostess and provide food and entertainment for guests, as well as baby necessities and advice for the new mom. The first step is to create the baby shower invitations. A desktop publishing program like Print Explosion or Microsoft Publisher make it easy with prepared invitation templates you can personalize with your own image selections and text. Use photos of the guest of honor to make your invitations stand out. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Open your desktop publishing software and choose a half-fold or quarter-fold card template.

2. Click on the first page of the card to select it as your current workspace.

3. Click on the "Graphics" icon or select "Insert," then "Clip Art" to add a baby shower image to the front of the card.

4. A baby item graphic is the perfect addition to your invitation.

Choose a baby-related graphic for the invitation. Baby bottles, pacifiers, booties or images of a baby are good choices.

5. A picture of the Mom-to-be makes your invitation more personal.

Insert a photo on the invitation cover by again clicking the "Graphics" button or clicking "Insert," then selecting "From File." Place a photo of the mother-to-be or any other relevant personal photo such as an image of the nursery or a teddy bear.

6. Create a text box under the photo by selecting "Insert," then "Text Box." Type in the words, "You Are Invited…"

7. Use a distinctive font on the card front.

Format your text by highlighting your wording, then selecting "Font" in the tool bar. Browse through the fonts to choose something that is both decorative yet easily decipherable to guests of any age.

8. Click on page three of the invitation to insert party details. Page two is the backside of the cover. Printing on page two may result in ink bleeding through when printing.

9. Create a text box on page three. Insert party details including for whom the party is being thrown, date and time, location and RSVP details. Include an email address and a phone number to make RSVP easy for guests.

10. Select and highlight the text to change the font. Use a font that matches the front cover, or a plain font to make the details of the party easy to read. Fonts like "Arial" or "Comic Sans" are good choices.

11. Select page four of the invitation. This is the back page of the card.

12. Use a sweet little image on the card back to complete it.

Add a finishing touch to the invitation by creating a graphic box on the bottom center of the card and inserting a small baby-related image.

13. Make sure ink cartridges are full before printing.

Save your work and do a test print on your color printer. Double-check spelling and party details before printing the rest of the cards.

14. Feed blank card stock into the printer and print pages one and two of your card. This actually prints pages one and four of the card depending on your software, so when it is folded it is the front and back of the card.

15. Print all of the invitations in this way, then flip the card stock over and reinsert it in your printer, following software directions.

16. Print pages two and three which results in printing the inside page of the card featuring all the party details.

17.Fold all the cards and insert into addressed envelopes to complete the process.
