Ideas for a Pirate Scavenger Hunt
A pirate scavenger hunt provides an amusing group activity for guests of all ages. You can confine the hunt to your house for a child's birthday party game, or you can make your guests run around town for an adults holiday party game. As long as you keep the tasks and travel requirements appropriate for the expected guests, a pirate scavenger hunt is an effective and enjoyable way to get everyone socializing.
Hidden Treasure Scavenger Hunt
Use assorted plastic coins hidden around your house and yard to throw a pirate scavenger hunt for kids 3 to 8 years old. Assign points for each coin color, such as one for red, two for yellow and so on. Close off the bedrooms and hide the coins in main living spaces, such as under the television, behind a cushion, in a basket or taped under a chair.
Break the scavenger hunt players into teams and give each team a list of the coin colors available. Give players at least 10 minutes to find as many coins as they can. When the game is over, count each team's coins and add up the points to determine the winners. Give the winners a medium-size plastic treasure chest filled with foil-covered chocolate coins. Give each player from the other teams a handful of chocolate coins in a small baggy.
Pirate Photo Scavenger Hunt
For teen or adult players, you can host a pirate scavenger hunt that requires silly photos. Ask a couple of guests to bring their digital cameras to the party. Break guests into teams of two or more people and provide each team with a camera, a costume pirate hat, eye-patch and sword.
Provide each scavenger hunt team with a list of possible pictures. Place a point value on each picture according to its difficulty. For example, easy pictures could be worth one point and include a blond woman wearing the pirate costume, a teen boy wearing the costume or a tall man wearing the costume. Difficult pictures could be worth five points and include a thin, tall, blond male chef wearing the costume or a stocky, brunette female in a dress wearing the costume.
Set a two- or three-hour time limit for your pirate photo scavenger hunt. Gather everyone together when time runs out and judge the pictures. Add up the total points for each team and declare the winners. Give each winning player a bottle of quality rum, a tin of chocolate coins or a skull-and-bones fridge magnet.
Port-Of-Call Photo Scavenger Hunt
This location-based pirate scavenger hunt is good for teen or adult players, or for family gatherings. Have guests dress up as pirates and provide each team with a digital camera. Provide a list of group photo locations each group needs to gather. Easy photos can include a photo in front of a pine tree, on a bridge or at a grocery store. Hard photos can include sitting at a table in a fancy restaurant, in front of a fire truck or on pink-and-red-striped carpet.
Set a time limit for your pirate location scavenger hunt. The team with the most locations or most difficult location photos wins. Give each winning player an assortment of liquor-filled chocolates or gem-shaped hard candies, and have small prizes for the other teams too.
