Although today's sweet 16 parties often have no other significant special meaning besides celebrating the coming-of-age, the sweet 16 party originally was created to be a celebration of a girl's virginity. Sweet 16 parties can range from formal, grand events to a small gathering of close friends. If you want to plan a sweet 16 party for your daughter, follow these steps.
Instructions
1. Involve your daughter. Your daughter may have some of her own ideas of how she'd like to celebrate her sixteenth birthday. She may love the pressure of hosting an upscale gala, or may prefer having a private girl's night with a few of her close friends. The teen years can be awkward times, so including your daughter in the planning can help to be sure she's comfortable with the whole idea.
2. Set a realistic budget. Setting your budget can help you and your daughter have a clear idea about what you can and cannot afford. This will also help your daughter to have realistic expectations about her party.
3. Pick a theme. Having a theme is a great way to plan a party. Having a theme allows you to incorporate food, music, activities and decor that work with your theme.
4. Nail down the logistics. Pick a date, time and location to have your party. You'll also want to plan the menu and decide who will be preparing the food. Make all the arrangements with regards to party logistics two months before the event.
5. Decide on the guest list. Will the party have boys and girls? How many people can you afford to invite? These questions will help you narrow your guest list. Mail our your invitations once you've nailed down a theme and date.
6. Lay down the law. Let your daughter know what is and is not acceptable at the party. Be clear that there will be no underage drinking or teens going off into bedrooms alone. Also let her know that while you won't be hovering, your presence will most definitely be known.
7. Take lots of pictures! This is a huge milestone for your daughter, and you'll want to be sure to capture it on film.
