Ideas To Make Wedding Reception Decorations

Homemade wedding decorations can most easily conform to your wedding vision.

Making your own wedding reception decorations enables you to add a personal touch to the decor as well as create the exact wedding decorations you had imagined. Homemade wedding decorations also help to ease the strain on your budget. By creating decor items yourself you free up areas of your budget to be applied elsewhere.

Table Linens

In lieu of renting or using the standard chair covers and bows from your wedding venue or catering company, create your own. Choose a soft fabric, such as tulle or organza, in the colors of your wedding color palette. Experiment with creative and different ways of tying the fabric to the chairs. Wind the fabric in and out of the pieces making up the back of the chair, hang the fabric so it cascades over the back of the hair, or tie the fabric around the chair, wrapping and twisting the loose ends into fabric flowers.

Centerpieces

Incorporate flower holders other than the traditional vases for an eye-catching and memorable centerpiece. For example, in the months before your wedding collect a variety of wine bottles -- at least three for every wedding table. Use the wine bottles as vases and place floral arrangements in the top of them. You could also insert tall, thin candles into the tops of the wine bottles and light them, causing the wax to cascade artfully down the sides of the bottles as the reception proceeds.

Vases Without Flowers

Collect some simple clear glass vases, but in lieu of putting flowers in them, choose more creative and distinctive items. These creations can be used as guest table centerpieces or as colorful accents on buffet tables or on mantels and counters throughout the wedding venue. Fill the vases with colorful Christmas ball ornaments for a winter wedding. Compile seashells and sand into the vases for a beach or tropical feel. Fill the vases with fruits and vegetables that complement your wedding color palette, such as lemons, limes, oranges or even apples.

Trees and Bling

Bring in large potted trees and plants to create large decorative items to rest on the floor of the wedding venue. Place them on either side of the venue entryways, as accents to the dance floor, or alongside focal point tables, such as the buffet tables, the wedding cake tables, or the bridal party table. Adorn the pots with bits of bling to make them sparkle and stand out. Use a hot glue gun to add gemstones, rhinestones and beads to the sides of the pots. Hang strands of beads and glittering gemstones from the branches of the trees so they glitter and sway under the lights of the reception hall.
