Make Retirement Flyers

Make Retirement Flyers

Producing a retirement flyer to pass out at your company or to put on the windshields of employees' cars is one way to reach a lot of people. It is particularly useful when trying to let coworkers know about an upcoming retirement party when you may not have everyone's contact information. Creating your retirement flyer doesn't have consume a great deal of your time and can be accomplished fairly easily by utilizing your home or office computer and a good graphics program.

Instructions

1. Use a sketchbook to formulate how you want your flyer to appear. Locate any graphics you want to include on your flyer, including photographs. For example, you may want to add a photo of the person who will be retiring. Include any information that is relevant, like the location, time and date of the retirement party and whether guests should bring a gift. You will also want to include contact information for RSVPs and let guests know by what date they need to respond.

2. Select a graphics program to create your retirement flyer. If you have access to Photoshop, it's a great choice for this project. Another choice is GIMP, a freeware program that can do many of the same things that Photoshop can. Whatever program you decide on, its important to select one that you feel comfortable using in terms of your skill level. If you are unfamiliar with graphic design, you may want to use a more basic program like Microsoft Office's Paint program.

3. Open "File" and select "New" to create a document (if you using a program like Photoshop or GIMP.) Choose a background type for your flyer, white generally being the preferred background color. Add the height and width settings, which are dependent on the size of the paper you will be printing on. Plug in the resolution required for your flyer. Generally 300 pixels is the best choice for printed documents.

4. Utilize the tools and image-adjustment options available in the program you're using. If you are using a program that has filters, like Photoshop, experiment with these filters and other image adjustments, including brightness and contrast to develop the design you want. Remember to save each element of your design on its own individual layer. If you bring in photos or other graphics, including clip art, these images will automatically be added as their own layer. In the case of graphics you create in the programs, you will need to add a "New Layer" in the layers panel for each of these elements.

5. Save and print your retirement flyer using your own home or office printer, or have your flyers printed professionally. If your intention is to print larger quantities, then it might be a better option to have the flyers printed by a print shop or office-supply store.
