Make Sea Salt

Sea Salt

Make your own salt from the sea! This is very easy to do and makes a special inexpensive gift or a nice memory of your vacation. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Gather the ocean water in your large container or jar. The more water you get, the more salt you'll make. Try to get at least a quart of water. Obviously, you'll want to gather clean water, so be aware of your environment and the reports on the condition of the water.

2. Strain the water through a cheese cloth into your pot. You can usually find cheese cloth in the cooking utensils section of your grocery store or at a specialty cooking store like Sur La Table.

3. Boil the water in a pot on the stove for several hours. This will take quite a bit of time depending on how much water you have.

4. Remove the pot from heat when there is still a very small amount of water left in the pot. You don't want to scorch your pot or the salt, but you want to get rid of as much water as possible.

5. Scrape all the salt crystals from the pot into a small bowl or plate. Leave the salt out over night to dry. Viola! Enjoy your home made sea salt with your favorite dish.
