Make Paper Cocktail Umbrellas

Decorate your fruity drinks with homemade cocktail umbrellas.

When you travel to an exotic, tropical location, fruity cocktails are usually served with cocktail umbrellas. These umbrellas add flare and visual appeal to the cocktails. However, you no longer need to travel to exotic vacations in order to enjoy decorated drinks. Now, you can create these umbrellas for dinner parties, holidays or just for a weekend evening on your patio. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Choose paper with a design that you want your umbrellas to display. This can be origami paper, colorful tissue paper, colored computer paper, newspaper or regular white paper with patterns printed out from the computer.

2. Trace the top or bottom of a soup can onto the paper for a perfect circle. Afterward, cut out the circles. Make as many circles as you want umbrellas.

3. Draw a triangle shape onto each circle, starting at the bottom of the circle and coming to a point in the middle of the circle. Make the triangle about 1/8 the size of the entire circle. Cut out these triangles.

4. Pick up a circle and connect the two sides where you cut out the triangle. By doing so, you will create a cone shape. Overlap the two sides slightly, and permanently attach them with glue or tape. Continue until all circles are completed.

5. Cut the wooden skewers until they are slightly longer than the height of the glasses that you will place them in.

6. Poke a wooden skewer slightly through the middle of each paper cone. Apply some glue or tape to the inside of the cone to keep the skewer in place.
