Make Wedding Invites

Wedding invitations don't have to cost a fortune especially if you are inviting less than a hundred people and you are a fairly creative person (or have a creative family member you can utilize). With a few easy steps, you can make your own wedding invites.

Instructions

1. The first step is to conceptualize what you would like your wedding invitations to look like. You can look through different ones online or with a company that creates them and decide what suits your style and preferences. When making your own invitations, consider simplicity in design.

2. Determine the theme of your wedding whether it be a destination wedding with a beach theme, a barbecue wedding with a cowgirl theme or two special colors are your theme, these will be the determining factors and set the tone for how you will decorate your invitations. Use the theme to decide on colors and motifs.

3. Find a store near you that specializes in paper. Large art supply stores or craft stores will often have fancy paper or you may be fortunate enough to have a store nearby that specializes in paper only. These are the best option. While there, peruse all the paper available to you. Feel the textures and weight as well as look closely at the beautiful details. Pick one that you would like to be the focus of your invitation. Now pick a plain light colored one of heavier stock to be the inside of your invite where the words will be. You may also be able to buy your envelopes here. If you will have people RSVP by mail you will also need smaller envelopes to put inside. Be sure to get enough paper for your entire project.

4. There are many options on decorate your card. You may find a beautiful rubber stamp that you can place at the center of the card or all around it. You may find a ribbon that can be placed like a bookmark in your invitation or glued like a stripe. Walk around a craft store and find embellishments that will fit your theme and style. Remember to keep it simple. You will, after all, be handmaking each invitation.

5. Look over other invitations to determine what the wording will be on yours. There are different types of wording on invitations from formal to casual to jovial for you to choose from. You will change the wording based on who is paying for the wedding or whether it is religious. You can also find a quote you like to place on the opposite page.

6. Now you want to put the card together. Determine the dimensions of your invitation and whether it will be flat or like a card. Remember it will need to fit your envelopes. Using a publisher program, lay out the words to your invitation and print it out on the card stock paper. Cut out the card stock, which is the inside of the card, and glue it to the inside of the special, fancy paper that you bought. Add embellishments and voila. You are done. Now for the hard part: addressing the envelopes.
