Throw A Red Carpet Party

A red carpet party is a hit with people of all ages.

A Hollywood red carpet theme would be appropriate for a child's birthday party, an Oscar-watching fete, or just because you feel like inviting people over and being glamorous. You don't literally have to buy a red carpet, but vinyl liner, butcher paper or red posterboard will convey the effect just fine. Have guests don their fanciest duds for your special private party and celebrate celebrity-style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Send out star-quality invitations. Purchase star- or movie-themed invitations at a party store. Send them out about a month in advance.

2. Decorate with lots of red, silver and gold. Hang Christmas lights and disco balls to create a glittering environment for your VIP guests. Lay out red carpet or paper leading to your door. Hang a red velvet ribbon across the doorway so you can permit guests "inside the rope" just as a VIP would be. Give someone a microphone to impersonate an interviewer and ask the guest a question about what they are wearing. Have a family member or friend snap a photo of each guest arriving.

3. Plan a buffet-style meal. If you're throwing the party for a child or teen, lay out "movie food" to add to the red carpet theme. Hot dogs, popcorn, candy and pickles with soft drinks and bottled water will make it seem like guests are at a movie premiere. You can also serve sparkling cider or juice in champagne flutes. For an adult party, consider hot appetizers such as canapes, dips and kabobs or finger sandwiches.

4. Purchase a cardboard stand-up of a popular celebrity and ask guests to pose next to it. Guests can also pose against a backdrop made of silver and gold streamers and a big gold star. The pictures can be printed out on your computer and given as favors when the guests are ready to leave.

5. Play movie-themed games. Make up some movie trivia games or print some out from the internet. Give an "Academy Award" (small trophy purchased at party store) to the winner. For entertainment, have a movie screening of that year's Best Picture, or for children, a popular movie for young people. Have everyone discuss their reviews of the movie afterward.

6. Send guests home with a party gift bag. Purchase small gold stars and write each guest's name on them in black marker. Tape or glue them to a clear cellophane bag. Party favors can include movie candy, a movie theater gift card for one admission, a pair of sunglasses and a disposable camera.
