Ideas For A Thirteenth Birthday Pool Party

13-year-olds will love lounging in the pool during a pool party.

A pool party is the perfect event for someone whose 13th birthday is during the summer months. Pool parties appeal to both boys and girls, making them ideal for the 13-year-old who wants a co-ed birthday party. Young teens will enjoy hopping in the pool to cool off, and there are plenty of fun games and activities for them to enjoy in and around the pool. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Teens love sunglasses, and one way to invite them to a pool party is with an invitation tied to an inexpensive pair of sunglasses that acts as a party favor. Print out all the details for the pool party on a piece of card stock, punch a hole in it and tie it to sunglasses with ribbon or yarn. Hand-deliver the invitations or mail them in padded envelopes. Another pool party idea is to cut out a large number "13" from blue paper and glue it onto the front of a white card for each invitation. Decorate the front of the card with pool-related stickers or rubber stamps and write the party information inside.

Activities

When guests arrive, have them decorate plain white T-shirts with fabric markers. Teens can also write funny or encouraging notes on each others' shirts. After they are done swimming, they can wear their shirts as cover-ups to avoid getting sunburned. For an especially chilling pool activity for a hot day, Disney Family Fun suggests dividing guests into two teams and giving each team a bucket in an inner tube floating in the pool. Dump a couple of large bags of ice cubes into the pool and have the teams race to collect as much ice as they can in their buckets.

Food

For lunch or dinner at the pool party, teens will enjoy grilled burgers or hot dogs with all sorts of toppings. Side dishes can include fruit salad, chips and dip. With the cake, serve frosty snacks such as Popsicles or frozen bananas dipped in chocolate. It is best to have most of the food at the end of the party so teens do not get sick swimming after eating a big meal.

Hotel Pool Party

If you do not have a backyard swimming pool and don't know anybody who would let you use theirs for a pool party, consider having a pool party at a hotel. Rent a couple of rooms for the night and have the young teens bring their pajamas as well for a hotel sleepover. You will need to rent at least one room for the night to be able to use the pool, so the idea is to make it into a hotel slumber party and have the young teens stay the night in the hotel. Ask the hotel manager if you can reserve the pool for a couple hours for the party, or just go use it with the other guests.
