Use Pop Rocks Candy To Make A Volcano

Use sweet ingredients to cause a mini volcanic eruption.

If you want to make a volcano for a school project, you can skip the vinegar and baking soda and use some sweeter ingredients. Pop Rocks and soda expand when they are mixed, which will cause an "eruption" in the bottle of soda. You will need to be prepared, as with any other type of volcano project, for a mess, especially with sticky sugary ingredients. This is the reason why you don't want to eat Pop Rocks right after drinking soda. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Go outside and cover a table with a plastic disposable table cloth. The Pop Rock volcano will leave a sticky mess behind, so you will want to make it easier to clean up.

2. Open a 20-oz. bottle of any fizzy soda. Place it in the middle of the plastic-covered table and build a volcano around it with modeling clay, salt dough or anything you can mold into the shape of a volcano. Do not cover the opening of the bottle; it is the opening of the volcano.

3. Open a bag of pink or red Pop Rocks. Pour the Pop Rocks quickly into the opening of the soda bottle and watch the volcano erupt.
