Graduating from high school is an unforgettable milestone in life, so it makes sense that many families plan large gatherings in order to celebrate. Location
The first task you will have in planning a graduation party is coming up with ideas for a location. Theme
Next, and probably most important, you will need to think up a theme for the senior's graduation party. Since most of these gatherings take place in May or June, outdoor themes are popular. You could, for example, throw a luau, with everything from leis to roasted pork. A Western theme is another outdoor idea you can work with, and you can get even more theme crazy with a costume party or specific decade like a 1950s sock hop or 1980s roller derby. The sky is the limit with your party theme, so ask the graduate for some input, or consult his friends if the party is to be a surprise.
Food
Graduation parties are often a mixture of friends and family, and so you'll want a mixture of food that will keep everyone happy. Finger food is usually ideal, since it is easy to munch on while people run around and mingle. It can also be very affordable. Alternatively, you can make your graduation party a pot luck if you are on a tight budget. On the other end of the spectrum, some families choose to have the party catered professionally for the sake of convenience and if you can do this it's a great option.
Beyond all of the ideas and planning, what makes graduation parties truly great are the people who attend them to honor the graduate. Be sure to have a camera on hand to capture the special memories of the day.
