Ideas For Graduation Gifts For 5th Graders

Young graduates often look forward to the next phase of school.

Leaving the fifth grade and entering middle school is a momentous occasion that families often choose to celebrate. Many children see this as an exciting time as they leave their comfortable elementary school classes behind and embark on a new world bereft of recess and ripe with new classmates. To congratulate your child on her graduation from fifth grade, consider a gift that will help her transition into this new phase of childhood.

Locker Starter Kit

For most students, middle school marks the first time they will have a locker, either of their own or shared. Graduation from fifth grade is the perfect time to give your child everything he will need to decorate and organize his new space. Include a magnetic organizer and collapsible locker shelf to keep things neat and maximize the small space. A set of magnets in a fun theme or incorporating the school's colors can be used to hold up notes, pictures and small posters. Other items for your locker starter kit may include a locker mirror, small calendar or magnetic whiteboard.

Elementary School Scrapbook

Keep the memories of elementary school carefully preserved by gifting your fifth grade graduate with a scrapbook of her early school years. Feature outstanding report cards, artwork, papers, tests and projects. Include school and class pictures for each year as well as candid photos of the student with her friends. Don't forget ribbons from accomplishments throughout grade school and other memorabilia such as programs from concerts, ticket stubs from plays and action shots from sporting events. Select scrapbooking paper and stickers that feature elementary school themes such as bright primary colors, crayons, school buses and blackboards. Write captions for the pieces in the scrapbook and include dates and grades whenever possible.

Custom Calendar

Your budding middle school student may soon have a much busier calendar than he had in the fifth grade, as he begins to explore new activities and spend more time with friends. Help him learn to keep track of his time with a fun, custom-made calendar. You can create your own calendar in a word processing program or have one professionally printed from a variety of web sites. Many will let you feature photos for each month and mark your own birthdays and holidays. Be sure to mark half days and days off from school on the calendar, as well as holiday breaks and the beginning and ending of each semester.
