Throw the best 5th-grade graduation party that will leave your child and his or her classmates talking for months. Graduating from 5th grade is a milestone and should be celebrated accordingly. Your child is leaving the familiarity of elementary school, where he was the big man on campus, and moving on with the older kids at middle school. 1. List the guests that you want to invite. Fifth-grade graduates may want to invite the entire class or at least all of their friends from school. You also will want to invite close friends and family.
2. Pick a location for the party, and map out the area you will need to accommodate guests. Graduation usually occurs in May or June. Depending on where you live, it is typically warm to hot during those months. Hold the party outside on your back patio, around the pool, or inside your home with access to the outside. For larger parties, consider a community center where there are activities for kids, such as swimming and basketball, and a private party room.
3. Send the invitations at least three weeks before graduation. There will be several graduation parties around the same time. Getting your invitations out early will ensure RSVPs to your party. Load the invitations with information such as time, location, and contact number. Notify guests if they need to bring anything to the party, such as swimming suits.
4. Purchase decorations at a party supply store. Graduation decorations are abundant during the first months of spring and usually follow a black-and-silver color scheme. If you prefer, choose a different graduation theme, such as a luau and beach party. Order the balloons a week in advance, and pick up the day of the party. Hang decorations the day before the party to relieve pressure.
5. Prepare games for the kids to play, especially if you are hosting the party at home. Besides fifth graders, you will need to know how many children will attend and their ages so you can hire or purchase adequate entertainment. Set up bean bag toss games and water balloons around the backyard for older kids, and hula hoops and sidewalk chalk for younger children.
6. Prepare the food yourself, or have the party catered. The food table will be the center of attention. Set out appetizers, hot dogs and hamburgers, side dishes, and desserts for adults and children. You will also need a variety of drinks, such as water, soda, tea and lemonade.
