Repair Broken Ceramic Dishes

Ceramic dishes are hard but brittle.

Ceramic dishes are affordable, come in a multitude of patterns, and are easy to care for. Ceramic dishes also are brittle. Drop one on a hard surface and it easily can break. As long as you have collected all the broken pieces--and they broke off cleanly and didn't disintegrate into ceramic particles--you can put a dish back together. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Put the pieces of the broken plate together in a dry run to make sure they fit together well. Carefully brush the edges of the broken ceramic pieces with a brush to remove any dust.

2. Put on rubber gloves. Choose the largest broken piece. Apply drops of the adhesive gel along the edges of the first smaller piece you're going to glue to it. One drop per inch is sufficient. Fit the small piece of ceramic to the larger one and firmly press them together.

3. Hold the pieces in place for 60 seconds while they bond together. Choose the next piece you are going to attach and apply the adhesive gel in the same manner.

4. Place the repaired ceramic dish in a cool, dry spot for one day. Do not move the dish. Allow the pieces to thoroughly bond together.
