Theme-appropriate invitations can help set the stage for a masquerade ball.
The invitations are the first information your guests will receive on a party, and will set the tone. Deciding on a theme for a party will help make it more unique, since you can choose a theme related to your own personal interests. For instance, a costume party will need a theme to help guests decide what to dress up as. Well-thought out and professional invitations will help guests look forward to a well-planned and professional party. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Plan a theme for your party. If the party is for someone else, ask him if he has any ideas. Costume parties can either have specific themes, such as "Pirates" or "1970s," or more broad themes such as "What were you in a past life?" or "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Broad ideas will let guests be more creative, but specific ones will make your party simpler to decorate and plan.
2. Create a guest list. Writing the guest list will help you to decide what information you should print on the invites, and how many you will need to make. For example, if there will be guests coming from out-of-town you may need to include a map and written directions to the location. If you plan to invite a large number of guests, you may opt to create the inviations with a computer rather than by hand.
3. Design your invitations around the theme using art supplies or a digital graphic program such as Photoshop or InDesign. Incorporate the theme subtly, such as creating a soccer ball border for a soccer-themed party. Alternatively, make the theme the main focus of the invitation, such as using paper cutouts of elephants as invitations for an African safari-themed party. Print your digital graphics on cardstock at a print shop. If you are crafting the invitations by hand, add pizazz with stickers, glitter, ribbon, felt, stick-on rhinestones or any other art supplies that fit with the theme. Think creatively. For example, if you have a pirate-themed party, hand-deliver the invitation as a message in a bottle.
4. Write or print the statement of invitation and the basic attendence details on the front of single-page invitations or on the inside page of folded inviations. The statement of invitation should include the party's title and officially ask the guest to attend. For example, write "Please join us to celebrate Amanda's Glamorous 45th Birthday Party!" Include the date, time, location and RSVP contact information underneath the statement of invitation.
5. Send the invitations out within a month of your party. If you send the invitations too early, the guests may forget about the party, but if you send them too late, the guests may already have plans.
