The kids will feel as if they're on a trip to Hawaii as they dance the hula to island music and snack on pineapple and tropical punch while wearing their homemade leis. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Cut disposable plastic tablecloths into 2-inch-wide strips.
2. Thread a needle with 2 yards of heavy thread and knot the ends together in a large knot.
3. Stick the needle through the middle of a plastic strip 1 inch from the end of the strip. Pull the thread through until the plastic rests on the knot.
4. Stick the needle through the middle of the strip again, 2 inches farther along the strip. The needle should go into the plastic on the same side of the strip it came out on. This will cause the plastic to fold back and forth in an accordion fold along the thread.
5. Keep running the needle in and out of the strip every 2 inches and pushing the plastic down to the knot so that it piles up in folds at the end of the thread. When you reach the end of the first strip, twist the plastic around the thread so that it spirals around in a tube shape.
6. Add more strips of plastic to the thread, in the same color or varied colors, until the lei is 30 inches long. Knot the ends of the thread together to finish the lei.
