Ideas For A Fresh Flower Centerpiece

Use contrasting flower and container colors for interest.

A fresh flower centerpiece brings visual interest to a table while imparting a fresh, perfumed scent to the air. Ideas for fresh flower centerpieces are only limited by your imagination, as you can vary the flowers and containers to suit your occasion. The primary focus is picking your theme and colors for your event before you prepare the flower arrangement.

Elegant

Several long stemmed red roses placed into a tall crystal vase give an elegant display. Arrange the roses by height as you put the larger flowers into the middle of the vase, and cut the stems to make smaller stalks for the sides. A couple of pieces of baby's breath, with its small delicate white flowers, adds contrast as does several large eucalyptus leaves. Fill the base with gel crystals tinted with red food coloring. Place it on a wedding or anniversary table.

Playful

A bright red metal sand pail does double duty when it becomes your vase for a playful centerpiece. Fill the bottom with rocks to weigh it down as you add large Gerber daisies to the pail. These bright yellow flowers contrast nicely with the red. Other yellow flower options include marigolds, carnations, chrysanthemum, dahlia or a sunflower. Add water to the pail before setting it out for a kid's birthday party or celebration.

Country

A white wicker basket lends a country air as you use it as a container. With soaked plant foam inside, you can create a horizontal visual display. Place large bunches of lilac into the center of the basket as you sprinkle lavender around the edges. Offset the arrangement with several white flowers, such as Queen Anne's lace or baby's breath. Allow some flowers to fall over the sides of the basket as you set them on your outdoor table.

Teapot

For a tea party or a kitchen table centerpiece, use a ceramic tea pot. With the addition of saturated plant foam, you receive endless arrangement options. Match the flower colors to the design of the teapot or pick dainty flowers, such as lily of the valley or jasmine, for the arrangement. Other options include gardenias or plumeria for their fragrant smell, orchids for their beauty or hyacinth and hydrangeas for their large flower heads.
