Prepare For A Sweet Sixteen

Plan a party that will be memorable for everyone.

A "sweet sixteen" is a birthday party thrown to celebrate the coming-of-age for a girl and it can be quite large and elaborate. Sweet sixteen birthdays are fun to plan, but they may become costly if you don't pay close attention to your budget. Plan everything well in advance so things run smoothly; instead of running around trying to get last-minute things done, you'll be enjoying the festivities with the rest of the group. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create a budget so you know how much you can spend. Take into account the cost of invitations and stamps, new clothes for the party, decorations, food and drinks, renting a venue and entertainment.

2. Decide on a theme for the party. If you are not going with any sort of theme, choose colors for the decorations.

3. Rent a venue to hold the party, if needed.

4. Create a guest list.

5. Purchase or create custom invitations that match the theme of the party. Include the name of the hosts, the time and location, who the party is for and who to call to RSVP. Purchase or make extra invitations in case you think of more people to invite.

6. Mail the invitations anywhere from one month to a few weeks in advance.

7. As guests' responses come in, place a check mark next to the name of everyone that RSVPs for the party, so you know exactly how many people are attending.

8. Write out a schedule for the day of the party, such as what time you need to start getting ready, how early you should leave to get there and what time people will arrive.

9. Decide what kind of food and drinks you want to serve. If you are throwing a fiesta-themed party, for example, serve Mexican food. Order your food and drinks through a catering agency. Make certain you tell them where, what day and time to arrive.

10. Plan what kind of cake to serve and whether you will order it or make it yourself. If you order the cake, tell them when you will pick it up or where it needs to be delivered.

11. Hire a disc jockey if you plan to have music and dancing. Choose what kind of music or which songs you would like to have played. Tell them what time they should arrive and get to the location.

12. Decide what to wear for the party in advance so you are not scrambling for an outfit at the last minute.

13. Decorate the venue the day before the party, if possible, according to your theme or chosen colors. Set a table out for gifts to be placed on. Place plenty of garbage cans around the room to collect trash.
