Make The Hawaiian Ring Game

Add real or artificial hibiscus flowers in the game area to provide an authentic Hawaiian atmosphere.

No party is complete without a game. If you are having a luau party, then the Hawaiian ring toss game is the perfect choice. By creating a close tossing line for children and a farther tossing line for adults, this one game can be used to entertain luau guests of all ages. This game looks fantastic set up outside near a pool or set up inside in front of a wall of bamboo posters.

Instructions

1. Place four of the floral foam blocks flat on the floor. Place one of the cylinder-shaped bamboo baskets on top of one of the floral foam blocks.

2. Trace the circumference of the bamboo basket onto the top of the floral foam block. Remove the bamboo basket from the top of the foam block. Trace the circumference of the bamboo basket onto each of the remaining three foam blocks in the same way as you traced it on the first foam block.

3. Cut the traced circles out of the foam blocks using the serrated knife. Save the foam scraps, and place the cut-out foam circles nearby.

4. Pick up one foam circle and place it flat in the bottom of one of the bamboo baskets. The foam circle should fit firmly against the sides of the bamboo basket. Squeeze small pieces of the foam scraps into any gaps that exist between the foam circle and the interior wall of the bamboo basket.

5. Stuff a foam circle into each of the remaining bamboo baskets and fill any gaps with small pieces of foam scraps.

6. Pick up one of the bamboo sticks and hold it centered in the middle of one of the bamboo baskets. Push the end of the bamboo stick all the way through the center of the foam circle in the bamboo basket. Push one bamboo stick through the center of the foam in each of the remaining bamboo baskets.

7. Cut pieces out of the four remaining floral foam blocks and fit them into the bamboo baskets to help hold the bamboo stick straight up.

8. Wrap a piece of red tape around the center of each bamboo stick.

9. Use the black marker to write the number 5 on the red tape wrapped around one of the bamboo sticks. Continue labeling the remaining bamboo sticks by writing 10 on the red tape of one, 15 on the red tape of one and 20 on the red tape of the final bamboo stick.

10. Place a line of red tape across the ground at the desired starting location for the ring toss game.

11. Place the bamboo stick labeled "5" a distance of 2 feet from the red tape starting line. Place the bamboo stick labeled "10" 2 feet directly behind the bamboo stick labeled "5." Place the bamboo stick labeled "15" 2 feet directly behind the bamboo stick labeled "10." Place the bamboo stick labeled "20" 2 feet directly behind the bamboo stick labeled "15."

12. Have players stand behind the red tape starting line and toss the three dive rings one at a time onto the bamboo sticks. For each ring that makes it onto a bamboo stick, award the number of points written on that bamboo stick. The player with the most points wins.
