Paris' famous Musee d'Orsay, located at 1 rue de la Legion d'Honneur, is an enormous museum of Impressionist and post-Impressionist art, representing the years of 1848 to 1914. Instructions
1. Take public transportation to get to the Musee d'Orsay. If riding the subway (Metro or RER trains) get off at the Solferino or Musee d'Orsay stops. Since the museum is located in the heart of Paris, it is also within walking distance of many other major attractions and hotels.
2. Get tickets for the Musee d'Orsay. You can purchase tickets online via the official museum website (see resources below) or in person on-site. The Musee d'Orsay is also part of the Paris Museum Pass, which includes over 40 of Paris' premier attractions on one card. To purchase the Paris Museum Pass, visit the official website (see resources below). An added bonus is Paris Museum Pass holders get to enter the museum via a dedicated (shorter) line.
3. Know the Musee d'Orsay's operating days and hours. From June through September, the museum is open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is open from 9:00 a.m. until 9:15 p.m. on Thursdays. The rest of the year (October through May), museum hours from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. apply for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Thursday operating hours begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 9:15 p.m. Note that the museum closes on Mondays year-round. Sunday visitors enjoy discounted admission, and free admission the first Sunday of each month.
4. Check out the museum's other offerings, including a snack bar and restaurant. You can take in a guided tour in English at 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. daily. You can also rent audio headset tours for a nominal fee.
