Paint A Wicked Clown Face

For some people, clowns straddle the line between amusing and frightening.

For several decades, the developing archetype of the "evil clown" has turned the traditionally goofy and harmless image of these painted entertainers on its ear. Evil clown costumes are a simple but scary costume allowing for a great deal of creative license. To create a wicked clown face paint, twist and distort aspects of traditional clown makeup into something unsettling, dirty and dangerous.

Instructions

1. Give yourself an uneven white foundation. Apply the grease paint all over your face. Press a paper towel lightly over your face and blot (don't rub) to make the makeup look like it's been worn too long and is in need of reapplication; this gives the makeup an untidy, dirty look.

2. Paint the wrinkles of your face with light gray lines. Scrunch and contort your face into different exaggerated expressions in front of a mirror to discover where your natural creases lie, and paint these lines with light gray paint; this creates a haggard, unhealthy look.

3. Outline the shapes of your makeup with sharp corners. Paint black circles or diamondlike shapes around your eyes and cheekbones, and a large U-shaped mouth outline. Give all of these shapes sharp, angular tips at the top or upper corners of the mouth; this creates a sinister expression suggestive of a knife's edge.

4. Fill in the shapes around your eyes with black paint for a dark, shadowy look to your eyes.

5. Give yourself black lips.

6. Use a sickly, splotchy green for the shapes on the cheekbones.

7. Paint or wear a traditional round, red clown nose. This creates visual irony. Fill in the mouth shape with red. Add blood drips to the bottom of the outline.
