You can fill a few glass cylinders with shells of different sizes, and then place a little mermaid figurine in an open shell on the top of one of the cylinders. Mermaids are meant to stay in the water, but you can still make a centerpiece out of the land that sits against the sea. Sand provides a versatile material to make a centerpiece with because it will hold things that you want to stick in it. Fill a dish with light and soft sand, and fill it with shells and other sea treasures, all surrounding a main statue or cut-out of the little mermaid of your theme.
