Origami invitations add a touch of elegance to your event.
Origami features paper folded into dozens of different styles of shapes. Origami projects range from beginner projects with just a few simple folds to advanced projects with many small, finicky folds. If you love origami or are planning an Asian-themed event, origami invitations offer an inexpensive and creative way to get your friends to RSVP. There are invitations that fall into the beginner category, so even an origami novice can make them.
Instructions
1. Choose a piece of origami or scrapbook paper. Both are available at craft stores in many sizes. Origami paper is thin and easier to fold, while scrapbook paper is thicker and more sturdy. Pick the kind of paper you like best.
2. Flip the paper so you see the white side, and fold it diagonally to create a triangle. Line the corners and edges up exactly. Unfold the paper and fold it again in the opposite direction; when you unfold the paper, you should have an "X" in the middle of your square.
3. Fold each corner of your square in to the center of the X. Crease the folds sharply; you should have a diamond-shape when you're finished.
4. Unfold each of your corners and write the invitation message in the center of the paper. Use the sections created by the creases to separate your information. Write the title of the event, the date and time, what to bring, and the RSVP information in separate sections.
5. Fold the corners of your invitation back in toward the center of the paper, recreating your diamond. Fold each diamond corner in toward the center, as well. This keeps your invitation from coming unfolded in the mail.
6. Slip each invitation into a small, translucent vellum envelope. The pattern on the paper will show through, giving your invitations a touch of elegance.
