Make Flyers Using Your Own Pics & Graphics

Maybe you want to create family reunion flyers to send out as an invitation to relatives, or you are in charge of making former classmates aware of your upcoming class reunion or perhaps you want to showcase your new business by sending out flyers with personalized photos and graphs to invite your community to your website or business location. Whatever your purpose for wanting to add your own pics and graphics to your flyers, the process is fairly straightforward and not too difficult. The following steps can help you get started with your project.

Instructions

1. Decide on the type and style of flyer you want to create. This means determining, for example, whether your flyer will have a serious or a humorous tone. A high school reunion flyer might include silly photos of fellow classmates, teachers and so forth, so a more humorous theme might be perfect. Select the photo and/or graphics you wish to use. Create the text that will be placed on your flyer. Be certain to take into consideration the size you will be creating in relation to the text and number of photos or other graphics you intend to use. It is a good idea to create a rough draft of you flyer. Keep in mind that you can always resize your photos with a graphics program like Gimp (freeware similar to Photoshop) or Photoshop.

2. Open Gimp or Photoshop. Choose "New" then "Open." Next plug in the size you want your flyer to be in terms of width and height. Select a resolution setting at least 200 pixels for the best printing outcome. Bring in any graphics or photos you will be adding. To do this open them in Photoshop (or Gimp) and select "Edit" and click "Copy." Then go back to your original document, select "Edit" and click "Paste." As you do this you will see that it will come in on a separate layer. You can make changes now, repositioning elements or adding filter effects to photos, graphics or text without affecting the work you've done on different layers.

If you intend to print on both sides of your flyer, you will need to create and design two separate documents.

3. Choose a printing method. You can either opt to print your flyers yourself using your home printer or have your flyers professionally printed. If you go the self-printing route, purchase enough ink and flyer printing paper to accomplish the job you have in mind. Alternately, you can have a print shop or an office supply store like Staples print your flyers. The latter option is advisable if you have a large number of flyers that will need to be printed.
